A Lesson From Lucifer

Lucifer's name has become so connected with evil, that we have become completely unaware of the original, true meaning of his name, which meant "Son of the Morning." He was, in essence, God's lead worshipper and would be considered in a modern-day context as God's armor bearer.  He was known as the Covering Cherub.

The lesson that I want to bring to your attention today, and is described in my novel, "When Kingdoms Fall," is the fact that this perfect, sinless, and beautiful angel lost his place in heaven because of pride. We are all well aware of his "I Will's" - they are a portrait of someone who got caught up in his own magnificance and beauty. In other words, he looked at himself too long and too greedily.

While it is important for each of us to learn to love ourselves, to celebrate our own successes, and to encourage ourselves in the Lord when we feel unworthy and useless, too much of anything can lead to major problems. Lucifer's world-shattering fall from glory occurred because he became drunk on his own self-absorption. He didn't just think that he didn't need God, he got to the point where he felt he was equal to God. It is a subtle thing, but the lesson that each of us needs to learn, is that if it happened to an angel created in perfection, it could certainly happen to one of us. Yes, you are great, you are wonderful, and you are awesome...but only because of Jesus!
